Limited Assistance Representation

Limited Assistance Representation (LAR) has been approved for use in all of the Massachusetts Probate and Family Courts.

LAR is a method whereby the client hires the attorney to perform specific tasks in their case.  The lawyer must be trained in LAR in order to provide LAR services.  Rather than handling the case from start to finish, the lawyer in an LAR case handles only those matters which the client requires in order to better present their own case.  The lawyer and the client decide together whether their case is suited to LAR and what specific events or issues the lawyer will handle.

The client can hire the attorney to act as settlement counsel only, to draft and file pleadings, to perform discovery in their case, to conduct a deposition, to attend Court for a single day or a specific event (such as a temporary orders hearing or a Pre-trial Conference), or any combination of tasks where the client needs help.  If the client wishes to have the lawyer perform additional services, the client and lawyer can simply enter a new agreement for the additional services.

This can be a lesser cost alternative for some clients who may not be able to afford the full services of an attorney, or who have limited or less complex issues for which LAR might be appropriate.  Contact the Levitt Law Group to find out if Limited Assistance Representation can assist you in resolving a dispute.
