In June 2013 Attorney Emily Weber participated in a week long intensive Family Law Trial Advocacy Workshop hosted by Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education in Boston.
The week-long interactive course was led by the Honorable James V. Menno of the Plymouth Probate and Family Court and the Honorable Mary Anne Sahagian of the Essex Probate and Family Court. Attorney Weber performed as trial counsel in all stages of a typical domestic relations case from motion hearing through trial, including:
- performing opening and closing statements
- direct and cross examination of lay witnesses and experts
- the proper use of exhibits and demonstrative evidence at trial
This mock-trial was performed under the demanding critique of Probate and Family Court judges and dozens of leading and experienced Massachusetts family law trial attorneys.
The week concluded with Attorney Weber co-chairing a hypothetical case in front of the Honorable Jeffrey A. Abber of the Essex Probate and Family Court in which she opposed the removal of her “client’s” children from Massachusetts as sought by the mother, her client’s former spouse. Attorney Weber points out that she “won” her trial!
