A Guardian ad Litem (GAL) is a person appointed by the Court to investigate the facts of a case and report to the Court.
The Guardian ad Litem may also make recommendations to the Court but only if so requested by the Judge. A Guardian ad Litem may be appointed in a divorce or paternity action where there is a custodial or parenting plan dispute, in a guardianship, in adoptions, or other matters involving the person or estate of a child or adult. A Guardian ad Litem does a comprehensive investigation in order to provide the Court with information that will help the Court make decisions in that case about the child(ren) or adult that is the subject of the court proceeding.
Our office has provided Guardian ad Litem services in many areas including divorce, paternity, custody, parenting plans, visitation, relocation/residency of children, guardianship, adoption, and other complex issues. Contact us for more information or to schedule a consultation.
